I have determined the reason I could not find my hummingbirds. I was not getting up early enough to see them.
I got up 3 days in a row just as the sun was coming up and all 3 days as I sat looking out the window at my kitchen table I saw my hummingbird!
I guess all this time I just wasn't early enough to see them.

Rebecca, I discovered your website while doing a Twitter search for "nature photographers". Your work is stunning! I know what you mean about looking for hummingbirds. I see them often at dusk, just as the last bright rays of sunshine have softened. They're sure noisy!
Recently I was sitting out back, watching about 20 goldfinch vie for a place at the feeders and along came a hummingbird. The little hummer kept dive-bombing them, and they'd flutter for a moment, then return to eating. He kept coming back. My camera was inside, and I didn't want to scare them so I missed a shot.
i love hummingbirds! i think they are the most fun to watch and observe, especially since they are the only birds whose wings fly backwards!
